Give Thanks!

November is a time of gratitude as we reflect on all the things that make The Lakes at Centerra such a great place to live, work and play. This month we’d like to highlight two of our community partners who are committed to preserving the beauty and longevity of Loveland.

High Plains Environmental Center

Located on The Lakes at Centerra grounds, the High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC) is a living laboratory providing leading-edge examples of community design, land stewardship, eco-literacy and sustainable living.

The HPEC explores connections between sustainable living and ecological processes, allowing The Lakes at Centerra residents to understand their impact and how they can live in a way that fosters personal and community well-being.

Additionally, the HPEC operates a four-acre Giving Garden. With the help of volunteers, it provides over 45,000 pounds of freshly-grown produce to the Larimer County Food Bank and the Loveland House of Neighborly Service annually. The Giving Garden also provides hands-on garden education with the goal of developing more community gardens throughout Loveland.

High Plains School

New this year, the High Plains School features a unique STEAM curriculum, which integrates a multifaceted range of concepts including science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Students are challenged to apply their knowledge to real-life situations, using a meaningful, problem-based learning approach.

Leveraging its proximity with the HPEC, the High Plains School has direct access to the HPEC and its outdoor classrooms, greenhouses, natural learning environments and year-round activities.

This community partnership paired with the school’s well-rounded curriculum provides students with an understanding of the importance of sustainability at a young age, benefitting our community for years to come.

The Lakes at Centerra understands that family comes first. That’s why the neighborhood was designed to closely link together the High Plains School and the HPEC, providing students with safe and enjoyable walking and biking routes to and from school.
