Earth Day Clean Up

Join your neighbors to help beautify the Lakes! No one is too old or too young to help. Involving kids in a neighborhood cleanup is a great way to teach them the importance of community and working together.

We will be sweeping the natural areas of the community trails on Earth Day to pick up litter and beautify our landscape. Litter in our natural areas is threatening to wildlife and their habitats–with your help we can control litter for the safety and well-being of our wildlife communities!

**There will be a scavenger hunt for kids, prizes for “most trash collected”, a food truck from 11am-1pm and more!

Earth Day Volunteer Roles

For the clean-up there will be two areas of volunteer stewardship that participants can select for sign-up.

Light Duty Stewards – Volunteers will carry garbage bags, wear rubber gloves (provided by HPEC) and pick up litter, trash, debris, along paved trails and sidewalks, and the natural area perimeters.

Moderate Duty Stewards – Under the guidance of crew leaders, volunteers will remove litter, trash, and debris from deep into the natural areas (cattails and larger vegetation areas) wearing their own muck boots and work gloves.

Event Coordinators – Additional areas of assistance are needed to help make this day a success, and will also be listed on the sign-up, including photographers, check-in coordinators, scavenger hunt coordinators, etc.

We’ll ask volunteers to come at 9:45 to get a briefing and orientation before we head out to the trails. You’ll choose what type of volunteer assignment you want when you register. Thanks for helping to keep the Lakes beautiful!
